The Rx 580 8GB stock seems to be depleted, how long before more arrive, I've been thinking of getting the Gigabyte plain Jane version?

570 and 580 stock is all depleted worldwide. It could be a few weeks before we see stock levels stabilize again. :(

Crypto currency miners have been snatching up these cards in bulk.

I did get lucky and found the MSI 580 8GB Armor in stock here but ya they're mostly dried up all over.

Yeah, I'm kinda scared what effect mining is going to have on Vega. AMD usually has pretty heavily allocations at launch as is, let alone throwing in customers that want to buy 10+ video cards at a time.

I think we'll all be recommending NVIDIA cards for builds for a while.

Well if my 580 doesn't arrive before then I'd jump at the chance to switch over to a Vega GPU instead

Invoke "limit 1 per customer" as your competitors do.
Does nothing for miners buying direct from factory, but it makes it more available (slows down the clickbot buyers) once you do get some in stock.

Restrict purchases to addresses ONLY in Canada? Or to Canadian customers only?

Because I think when they buy in bulk they could also ship it out to other countries as well.

Etherium was intentionally designed to be 'harder' to mined (by specialized mining hardware) so that the miners has to buy AMD GPUs in droves on purpose.

When Bitcoin caused AMD GPUs to be sold out back then, manufacturers made special hardware that was more efficient for mining to deter them from buying out consumer grade GPUs. So Etherium made itself impervious to these hardware on purpose, and my theory is that with the prices inflated due to low supply and high demand, they can resell these GPUs at sky high prices.

I bought the Asus RX 580 and waited around a month for the card to come in.

Invoke "limit 1 per customer" as your competitors do.

We've frequently done 1 card per shipment on past video card releases with allocation issues. Order 5 cards, you get one from each batch of cards that arrives. It would probably work well enough in this situation too.

I know of one XFX shipment that's leaving CA for our BC warehouse this week, but it's going completely to filling backorders.

There is no point of waiting for 570 and 580 to be in stock at all. I mean by the time it is in stock, vega rx is probably out. In other words , just get vega rx. I highly doubt miners will snatch vega rx all up considering mining ethereum is getting harder and harder (aka unprofitable). :P

It's anyone's guess how it responds to mining, Equihash perks up now and then, any word one when vega rx is going to show its' face?

Edit, I spoke too soon it's dropped about %30+ and it hasn't bounced back up.

According to some internet source, Vega rx will be out by the end of August. By the end of August, I can probably buy a rx 580 for cheap. Fyi, I have been mining on and off since the first gen of bitcoin asic.

is there stock coming in at regular intervals? If you order today what kind of time are we looking at? weeks? or months?

Am in the middle of a build and I need a decent video card. seem like there isn't much out there at all.

Greg if you could elaborate how the process is working atm it could help. Dunno which to buy or would you have to buy 5 or 6 different ones, wait till the first comes in and cancel the rest?

A little guidance here could help.

only other way I could think something could work is buying into a "pool" of cards and getting the first one in?

Cheers

Ace

The mining craze does seem to be dying off, Ethereum prices have been going down and we'll probably see a bunch of used cards flooding the market. I have seen some very low prices for used cards on some sites.

I checked several site that have cards for sale (used and/or new with proof), and they are selling at $200 to 400 over list prices.

I did order one from here, but we will see if it comes in in time or if I will cancel and change order if and when new supply or Vega GPU.

NCIX has been clear it could take months to get decent supplies of cards

Cheers

In cases where the unit price of a device rises dramatically, is it because the manufacturer is charging the importer/distributor/supplier more money or is it the importer/distributor/supplier hosing the channel partner/retailer for more money? I get supply and demand adjusting prices and all that, but I'm just trying to pin down who's initiating the price increase in these kinds of situations. I remain skeptical that the average Joe worker in Shenzhen decided to unionize and drive labour prices up.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it is coming from all levels of the supply chain but if it starts at the bottom then the rest are just trying to maintain margin percentages and dollars rise fast as it is compounded. Also, there seems to be allocations placed on cards where orders are only being partially filled. I've seen that CPU pricing is usually priced with lots of 1000 being the cheapest. I'm wondering if the allocations are moving the price bracket into the lower lot amounts on GPUs. If so, that is pretty shady of the manufacturers since they can't keep up to demand.

There is likely some expedited shipping occurring as well and that might be driving up costs. I.E. not coming on the slow boat from China but being flown over.

Right now the price of 480 has comes down in kijiji to around 400 listed but you can usually get it for 350. The 4gb version of 480 and 580 will be useless to ethereum miners probably in august :P

I wouldn't say they're coming in at regular intervals. Just, intervals. :(

Unfortunately I have no idea what the time frames are. It's so volatile I can't give you accurate data.

I really can't wait for this current mining craze to go away. I'm sure sales likes having customers request 50+ video cards at a time, but it's a headache for all us gamers.

Mining bubble for ETH is bursting with the increasing difficulty, I will be listing a gently used RX 580 8GB soon.

It's all about Zcash on Nvidia cards right now
