(Under this rock) I get 35down/5up (officially 30 down) via Teksavvy (cable - $39.95)
400GB/month with Unlimited Usage between 2am and 8am
one thing to note is that I get 35Mbps down multithreaded, but single threaded download speed is more like 9Mbps which bites so I use a multithreaded approach for larger downloads
vast majority of internet bandwith test sites use a multithreaded approach

it is ok ... but I miss my fiber connection that I had in Calgary as I could max out my bandwidth on a single thread

and no, it is not my equipment - it is just how my ISP provides my connection

and the service does suffer a bit when the all kiddies in the neighborhood are watching their cat videos (the fiber connection did not suffer at peak times)

Thomson DCM475 cable modem
Ubiquiti ERLite-3 Edgemax EdgeRouter
HP ProCurve 1810G - 48 port
Ubiquiti Unifi AP Pro
Raspberry Pi running Pi-Hole (DNS server/ad blocker) and the Ubiquiti Unifi Controller

Edit: Best price for internet in the area that I am currently in.
No fiber/VDSL service (just poorly provided ADSL) so I went cable.

Yeah CrazyEyes, I'm in NB to and there is only Bell and Rogers. I've been with Bell for 20 years now ... Shrug would love to have other options.

I think I pay about $35 a month on Telus for 50/10. Only because I signed a new contract with them for 2 years so I'm still in the first 6-months where I get the deal.

Eventually it goes up to $80.

We recently got upgraded to 150/150 on our wires, so I can do that for I think an extra $5 per month. After our orignal 3-year plan ran out at $170 per month, phone/internet/cable I negotiated a plan that wasn't on contract for super cheap (roughly $90 for all 3 for 6 months), which was $10 per month cheaper combined than I could even get by signing deals with all other vendors. And now again this time just 6 months later they agreed on a contract for a similar thing.

Lo and behold, I've cruchned numbers of all providers in the area and I wouldn't get a better deal moving to another. Even with tekksavvy I would have literally only saved $10 at the end of 2-years. Not worth the headaceh of having to buy my own router etc.

It's literally just shaw or telus 'round these parts and they are within $5 of each other on similar data so you really can't win.

The number of alternatives in that speed range around here are exactly zero. So, not much of a choice.

Thankfully my power and heat is included, as that could easily range from $500-$1000 (for one month) depending on the time of the year.

for those of you who want to know how badly companies are ripping off everyone across canada. compare your plan to Novus. why did i leave Vancouver?

p.s. i just noticed they added small print "for the first year". They did not have that before. It's probably still competitive but lame nonetheless.

So far the only company that has low setup and never changing rate and unlimited is Vmedia where I am.

Interesting - didn't even know that plan existed..... guess I should check their site a little more often.... that, and I guess they don't mind that we pay almost as much as that for their 30/5 plan.

30/5 is being upgraded to the 75 plan. Apparently you can call Shaw and they'll upgrade you now, but if you don't call they won't automatically upgrade you until October.

60/6 with Shaw. $50 a month. Always getting 70+/6.5 tho . The one and huge reason I stay with Shaw is they don't charge overage fees.
