I have a custom PC builder working on this:

i7 7700k OC 5.0
Asus ROG Maximus IX Apex
DDR4 G.Skill 4266 16gb
NZXT x62 Kraken AIO
960 pro 512gb
w/ Asus ROG Swift PG278QR G-Sync 2k 144hz (oc 165hz)

Noticeably, I have excluded my GPU.

I want to know if for my applications, are 2 Asus Strix 1080 ti in SLI worth it or should I only get 1? I want to run games like PUBG and Witcher 3 on Max settings.

PUBG is more CPU game usage as now support 6+ cores.
SLI was just slowly being supported since June. Not fully as good right now.

Witcher 3 will see a big boost from SLI from 40-60%

If you have a good case to support proper cooling and a quality PSU.

Max settings for me means Max Quality

Can you change that PG278Q to the IPS PG279Q?

Since you are spending the money, make sure you get a good monitor. You can always add a 2nd 1080ti anytime.

Personally I was running SLI GTX 680's, and I actually GAINED 20fps on average by disabling SLI for PUBG.

The game also runs quite nicely on a single GTX 970, so it should be great on a GTX 1080 Ti.

I have my system now! Running great with a single card. The PG278Q vs QR model is free sync vs g-sync if i'm not mistaken, i.e. AMD versus Nvidia. Correct me if i'm wrong! I've tested the IPS PG279Q monitor against the PG278QR, call me crazy, but I felt the small input lag (not response time/ms) in the IPS playing fast paced games. I feel like I shouldn't because its so the small, but I did. I didn't know about the difference prior to testing the monitors.

I am curious about the 4k version for less competitive applications, I believe its the PG27AQ. Sounds like a better version of the PG279Q. Thoughts?

IPS technology does change the view slower than a TN panel does. Most people will never notice it, so you probably have really good eyes.

I hope that over the next couple of months we will see improved support for SLI in PUBG as they continue to optimize the game! I agree though, I'll probably hold off on adding another card until I will see actual benefits from it.
