Looks like you have a great start to a killer PC. Good job. Just for future advice, I would have waited and ordered everything at once as you have 30 days to deal with NCIX for RMA for most items so who even though Coffee Lake and likely Z370 boards are supposed to come out Oct 4, who knows when they will really be in stock and when they ship and then you need to build and test. Plus, if you order everything at once, you can have NCIX build/test for $50 which is really a great option.

That said, keep the mechanical drive as a data drive. What I like to do is have one SSD for OS and some applications only and then a 2nd SSD to install all my games on. This way if I need to wipe the OS SSD and re-install Windows (which I usually do every once in a while because they usually slow down due to bloat, etc.), it doesn't overwrite any of my games. So basically I have 2 SSDs in my PC (minimum). Then I use mechanical drives for storage and I can move games here if I stop playing them for awhile but still want to keep them installed. If your SSD is large enough, you could partition it so one partition is the OS and the other is the games but then you need to get a much larger SSD because games due add up.

Thanks for the input. I only ordered the case as it was 90 and free ground shipping! So can they still test all the parts? Doesn't it make sense to wait for the most current mobo and proc? Or will price vs performance be an issue? I don't mind waiting a bit of its going to be better overall... and a similar price. I have a gaming laptop. If that's the Case, what would you guys recommend for a mobo and proc?

Thx

R5 would have been scraped. It is no longer a good case compared to the Define C or Meshify C.
In terms of airflow and cooling.
Optical drive is not needed either as windows can be installed via USB.
Also 850w PSU is way more than you need, unless you plan to get a 2nd GTX1080Ti. 650w is more than plenty.

Soundcard is not needed either, which wont be much better than onboard. In that point unless you have some good headphone, which you would use a USB DAC.

Unless you got the Dominator Platinums on a great sale, they're generally much more expensive than "regular" RAM and it's the same thing

218 before tax. I haven't ordered anything yet! I have it loaded up in my cart, I am basing it on your guys input and googling reviews. The case I'm not to worried about. I'll be in a cooler basement, using headphones with minimal hardware and current.

You really think I should drop.to the 750 eh? I can't see me doing sli for quite some time.

What memory do you recommend specifically?

https://www.ncix.com/detail/g-skill-ripjaws-v-16gb-2x8gb-5a-111429.htm

This or the 3000 speed ones for 10$ more.

RAM is ridiculous expensive right now, so, there is especially no need to buy "fancy" RAM.

Storage is personal needs. I use 256gb for OS and the very few games that benefit from an SSD.
But i also use HDDs for photos and back-up so i need a couple 3tb also.

Its up to you how much redundancy and space you need.

Even in a cooler basement. Define C is still a better case.
Airflow/Lower Temps goes as follows.
Define C Meshify -> Define C -> Define S -> R5
This is the result of cases I got.

SSD size 256gb is just to small now. Cost of 500gb is not much anymore being under $200
This PSU is very good for the price and performs great.

SLI is now becoming less and less useful. Single card is now best option, unless you plan to game with 4k screens.
By then, you may just replace 1080ti in a few years.

Yes you can cancel or change your order.
Call NCIX on Monday.
Meshify C is my top choice right now.

What do you guys recommend for a monitor? The Dell 27" 1440 144hrz seems to be a good buy.... for 700 after taxes. Anything better in that price range?

Well take a look at the Acer Predator series as well. Dell and Acer might share LG panels, unsure, but worth a looksee just to see.

If you mean the S2716DG, its a TN panel.

It costs too much for a TN panel even if you can stand to look at a TN panel.

Its not much more for an IPS. There are many.

Up to you ultimately.

Thats what i have yeah.

For me the ULMB at 120hz and 140cd brightness is like having a CRT again.

Some games work better with 144hz and g-sync though.

Its worth it in the end for me. Its what your eyes see. Basically like having a better graphics card right? What you are seeing is much higher quality.

TN is for pro gaming where it doesnt matter how nice it looks, just want the high numbers. But those few high end IPS are just as fast now also.

I would never imagine selling it except that i am doing a home-stay for 8 months soon so might be persuaded.

I wanted to get this mobo MSI Z270-A PRO LGA 1151 Intel Z270 if I just say screw it and go i7 7700k, but I only see a crossfire here?

7700k now is no longer worth it with coffee lake coming out soon.

Yeah the 8 series is what should have come out quite a few years ago probably. They had to put it out against Rysen.

The i5 8k will be as fast or faster than the i7 7k, but probably lower price even if equal performance.

You wont need the new i7 8 for gaming. The i3 8 is going to be an awesome and cheap gaming CPU.

Do you think soon is a reality? I got worried it could be a month still before anyone stocks anything!? Or do you think tomorrow will be the day!!

Thanks

I grow more impatient by the day, lol. I was able to switch my case to the destiny C or whatever... the meshify was not in until the end of November

ETA?

Lol. Also, it seems like there are some easy and efficient water cooling systems these days? Is there anything easy and affordable that will do gpu and cpu?

New coffee lake is this month. You have Ryzen which is no problem for gaming and productivity.

CLC you see is trash.
Only air or custom loop.

Wont take a month. You can get Ryzen.
No reason anymore not too. AMD is now much better than it ever was.

Which items did you already order?

everywhere I read.... says the i7700k kills amd in gaming

"Strictly for gaming, the best CPU will have to be Intel’s i7 7700K. When overclocked, this processor helps provide nice frame rates at ultra high resolutions. It’s become something of a standard when it comes to gaming, providing stable performance across numerous builds.

The i7-7700K is part of the newest Kaby Lake generation. It has a 4.2Ghz base frequency and 4.5Ghz max turbo, using Intel’s Turbo Boost. This is among Intel’s fastest processors and if you overclock it (it’s the 7700K, you absolutely should), the i7-7700K outperforms the overwhelming majority of the CPU market when it comes to gaming. At around $350 give or take, the 7700K is also reasonably affordable for a top-tier gaming CPU."

Also, NCIX says coffee lake estimated stock is october 9th now?!
