Yes, a desktop will absolutely destroy a notebook. Notebook components are restricted by the amount of available electricity, where a desktop can run full blast without worrying about battery life.

For a 4k TV, definitely look at building a desktop PC. mATX or mini ITX builds are fine if you're looking for a compact system, just as long as you add in a high performance video card (preferably a GTX 1080 or 1080 Ti at this point in time).

hey Justin, if you Google Saberon's Build Templates, you should find reference to one's at different price points.

Sab is one of the forum moderators here (volunteer, not an employee) and has continually updated and tweaked as tech changes.

If you're an overclocker you'll want to go Intel, as their CPU's can get up to 5ghz on air (note, it's always a crap shoot so you might not get a winner...but on the flip side, most are). AMD's new Ryzen CPU's are competitive and powerful to Intel now, but the platform is so new and unoptimized with bugs and glitches, that overclocking is a frustration. buy one of their entry level CPU's and you can push it close to 4ghz, but that's a far cry from Intel's 5ghz. granted, you'll have 6 or 8 cores for a fraction of what it would cost to have the same # of cores from Intel, but Intel still beats AMD in gaming, even if you have more cores. if you do graphics/video creation/editing, than the cores are beneficial.

anyhow. ask questions. we're happy to help

Mr. Friendly™, just FYI, you CAN OC any AMD Ryzen CPU to their "boost" maximum frequency (example, from Ryzen 7 1700's 3.0Ghz to 3.7Ghz) without even adjusting the CPU or any other voltages for a 24/7 stable OC.. so it is literally as easy as changing the multiplier from 30 to 37 / save / reboot.

If you can login to ncix you should be able to OC it.

Gaming wise, things got much better, and if you have a 1440p monitor or a powerful video card, there is no advantage to go Intel unless you have money to burn.

hey Jack...I said that in my message. I only pointed out that in comparison to Intel's Core CPU, the Ryzen is quite disappointing.
