hey Steven, when Ryzen 5 launches in April, it should allow you to get a solid platform in your price range.

just note that Ryzen does not have an IGP like the Intel processors or the AMD APU, so you'll need to buy a graphics card. something like the GTX 750 Ti or GTX 1050 or Radeon RX460 or RX470 should suffice.

Ryzen 5 launches April 11. I would wait for that for sure. Pricing is going to be great.

edit: Launches not 'Launched'

that said, you should find options in your price range if you look for something like a Lenovo M700 or Lenovo M800 desktop.

i5, 4GB or 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD Or 256GB SSD and W7P or W10P w/3 Year NBD Onsite Warranty.

M700 supports dual displays, 1x DP and 1x VGA. if you get an M800, 2x DP.

Something like the system outlined in the showcase (includes a number of items on special) offers excellent performance for the described tasks. A hard disk can be added if more storage is needed.

yeah, don't get an i3. that Lenovo with an i5 will smoke it. quad core PC's are good for 6+ years now. heck, I have friends rocking 10 year old quad core PC's and with 8GB of RAM and an SSD, no need to upgrade any further as they're still more powerful than most entry level Celeron and Pentium based PC/notebook out there.
