I'm glad to hear I've been able to help! That Fractal Case is just top notch

Did you try enabling XMP in the BIOS to get the 2400 speed?

Hey Saberon, wondering if this would be a viable build for gaming? Or if you think its not worth to delve into the xeon world.

Asus e3 pro gaming c232 - $209
Intel Xeon E3-1230 v5 SkyLake 3.4 GHz 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1151 80W $389
Corsair Vengeance Lpx 8GB 2X4GB DDR4-2400 C14 1.2V Memory - $72
EVGA SUPERNOVA 650 P2 - $100
CRUCIAL® MX200 500GB - $250
Cooler master Hyper 212 Evo $40
ASUS GeForce GTX 970 Strix OC 1253MHZ $440
Case ?? $100
Microsoft 7 upgrade to 10 ??

I don't really see any special point in going with a Xeon/C232 over a Z170/6600K  ;)

And the Blackout Edition R5 is on sale this week, not a bad price considering out plummeting $

Hello!

I want to spend a bit less, maybe around 1100-1300. What alterations can I make to this build to perhaps lower the cost. Would this build still be good If I replaced the 1070 with a RX 480, R9 390, etc? I don't plan on overclocking either, so I don't need the K series processor or that type of motherboard. Im not sure if I even want to include an SSD... I still want good performance but I am willing to sacrifice aesthetics, pricey cases and such. I have made a build on PC part picker, and I plan on doing all my shopping at NCIX (price matching where I can).
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/7qNTBP
Thank you for taking the time to (hopefully) read this! I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks again,

- Palmer

Short Form : (Something between the 1000 and 1500 Dollar build?/ Is the SSD necessary and can I change the 1070 to a 390 or something a bit cheaper)

Saberon also has the $1000 build template so take a look at it and then add and make changes as you see fit.

Hi would you say this rig is more than capable of running LoL while streaming or recording at the same time with high FPS. I am really into LoL and sold my old rig which had an I7 4770k gtx 970 asus rog motherboard 16gb og ram. I'm looking to spend somewhere around the $1500 price point but if something calls out to me I don't mind dropping the extra cash

Saberon, just wanted to give a thumbs up and a 'thanks' for posting this (and the other builds) I used this one as a template for my new rig (switched out a few different components for stuff that was on sale at the time, and went for more RAM), and it turned out brilliantly. Currently playing The Witcher 3 on Ultra settings, and the GTX 1070 isn't even getting a workout (it's completely silent). Of course, my monitor's only 1080p, so... And that Fractal Design case: holy crap I love the layout. Never used them before, but they'll be at the top of my list whenever I get around to building another one.

Yeah, I haven't built a new rig for 7 years, so was a bit out of the loop when it came to parts and newer tech. So your build suggestion was a great help. I ended up with:

Case: Fractal Design Define R5
Mobo: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 6
CPU: Core I5-6600K
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 (8GB)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) x2
PSU: EVGA Supernova 750 P2 80 Plus Platinum Certified 750W (modular)
SSD: Intel 540S Series 240GB + Crucial MX300 275GB
CPU Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Windows 10 64 bit

So, a bit more than the $1500 template in the end, but under my $2000 budget. Anyway, thanks again. :)

Do we have any updates to this build template as it is now April 20th? Do we see price point drops or new hardware come later in May???

many thanks

The parts are always kept up to date, but prices have increased a lot in recent years and it's over budget at the moment. I only make a forum post for a major change like a new socket, but the build has been definitely updated since my last post on Jan 6.

I haven't had time as of late to make an alternate build for Ryzen, but am planning on doing so when I can.

Not sure of the 4/20 significance, but that $43 of budget head room will buy you a lot of doritos.

hey Saberon, you need to retitle this thread as the Intel solution and create  another new thread for a comparably priced AMD solution.

Yup, that's the plan now that we can edit thread titles.

I'm going to have it done this week, no more procrastinating.
