I guess the hype is real? Or is intel to blame?

My 3930K today is officially outdated. 6 cores is now mainstream. Oh well, good investment still, lasted me 6 years, the longest CPU I kept without upgrading.

Intel rushes and launches it in just enough quantities so benchmarks are given and a few consumers can get it. Benchmarks show it is better than Ryzen in most tests and Intel hopes that people that were going to buy Ryzen in Q4 to hold off.

Now it's AMD's turn to rush Ryzen 2 out before Intel can ramp up production and get more 8-series out in consumer's hands. Expect to see a bunch of "leaked" information to come out about Ryzen 2 very shortly.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, but I'll be keeping my 3770k for a while longer still. I still don't consider it outdated, and this is easily the longest I've gone between CPU upgrades ever.

My theory is that since AMD had such a poor run of CPUs with the Bulldozer architecture, Intel probably wasn't pushing their R&D too heavily and we ended up with a bunch of small, incremental upgrades for a few years. Maybe with Ryzen, they'll light a fire under their designers and push them for a big boost.

I think we're getting close to the limits of what silicon chips are capable of though. It's getting too hard to make transistors smaller, so we're going to have to find a new technology to push things further and faster within the next decade.

You'll be waiting a while for good stock.
Are you hell bent to get Intel. Nothing wrong with Ryzen, which will give you what you need now.
Plus AM4 will be around for a while which gives you upgrades when AMD releases future CPUs.

Not bent per say... but if it is close... and better for the same price, why bother? Unless you are telling me it will be comparable to the new intels chips and better then the i7 770k? Otherwise, why? thanks

You had a laptop.
Day to day the difference between will never been seen, unless you older gen chips.

Plus next year Intel is releasing the next CPU, which will need a new mobo.
Unlike AM4, AMD next release will be support on X370.

Have a laptop yes.... but everyone says I should wait on the coffee lake because it will be worthwhile, I will not just be jumping to the next intel... as I made it 7 years without a computer, I will not be upgrading.

You are saying the best current amd processor and ram... will be no different for gaming then coffee lake? I will be going 1080 ti and acer predator 27" 1440 144hz?

If that is the case, what do you recommend for a processor, mobo, memory? I have not read a thing on amd
