what to get...what to get.

I've got a Logitech G500s and the left button is dying. :(

I'd like to go wireless...but I have a KVM, so no go. :P

recommendations?

I have a Steelserie Sensei mouse and i like it, but 2 year ago the left switch started to double click, I bought 4 micro switch on eBay and replaced the left and right in the mouse. This cost me around 5$ can at the time. If you have some soldering skill or want to learn it's easy and you will save some $$$.

If the KVM has a usb port for the mouse, shouldn't the usb receiver work plugged into the port?

If you're using the KVM I sent you, you might be okay with the usb receiver plugged into it. I used my Logitech trackball with it and the receiver worked fine. Sometimes there was a bit of delay for the PC to pick up the mouse when switching systems. YMMV of course.

go to an electronics store
buy some spray contact cleaner
open your mouse
spray into microswitch
press microswitch repetiviely to work contact cleaner into microswitch
enjoy your fixed mouse

this is assuming that the problem is just dirty contacts
this will not fix the problem if the microswitch is plugged with mustard, ketchup, or items of similar viscosity (i.e.. lubricant )

Friendly, you might also want to read this thread:

https://forums.ncix.com/forums/?mode=showthread&forum=107&threadid=2735630&pagenumber=1&msgcount=8&subpage=1

Methinks all 3 methods would work, i.e. contact cleaner sprayed into the switch(as NaX mentioned), replace the switch(as Jason_B48 mentioned), or the fix I linked to in that thread.

Coincidentally, my G500S started doing the dreaded double-clicking again, a few months ago, and although I'd ordered some dirt cheap replacement switches from Fleabay, I opened the rodent up, and did the fix I mentioned in that thread, and it's now working fine again.

The contact cleaner is the least invasive method, and I'd rate the other two methods about equally invasive, i.e. one requires a wee bit of desoldering & soldering, whereas the other requires some dickin' around with extremely small parts. OTOH, all three methods are cheaper than a new rodent.....

I'll look into the cleaner.

it's not that the button doesn't sense the click, but more like a weak click. makes a completely different sound and it's inconsistent in doing it.

but I'll try as the mouse isn't exactly 'cheap'. :P

edit - btw, gazoo, I didn't end up needing the KVM. do you want it back or can I pay it forward to someone else that might need something like this?

Just pay it forward. I will never need it with my configuration (and it likely won't work well with my displays) and since I am totally Microsoft on all systems I just remote in. That really works well for me as I can have a window with my main rig open as well as the remote system at the same time.

In that case, the contact cleaner won't fix it. If you read that other thread I linked to, and read the fix, in that thread, that I provided a link to, pay particular attention to step #11 - that part, in particular, will fix a weak click..... if you make the bend in the "foil" quite flat, when you re-install that foil, it'll have more tension on it, and you'll have a switch that's quite clicky. I realize it's hard to visualize from reading any of what I've typed here, and even reading through that fix, but if you open up the switch and try it, you'll see for yourself.

As I cautioned in that other thread, the pieces are so damn small, and somewhat difficult to get back into place, but with a magnifying glass, some good tweezers, and a bit of patience, it's very doable. Given that you're talking about buying a new mouse, you may as well try it - you've got nothing to lose.....

I've had a kensington "mouse for life" for I don't know how many years now. Tiny and utilitarian but man they really do last and last.
You get used very quickly to it and who likes having to constantly buy a new mouse every 6 months?

I have thought about that new trackball that Logitech launched.

can you imagine how big my thumb would get, exercising it like that?

I'm going to get it so I can get rid of the blue balls I currently have. The new MX Ergo has silvery-grey trackballs.
