One of my dashcams just started barfing errors for it's memcard.
Are there any tools that help determine if the lifetime of an SD card is up? Like SSDLife for SSDs?

I'm currently formatting the card that the dashcam was complaining about in windows. No errors so far, but I have a feeling I might only see issues if I try writing then reading back. Nope, no errors there. Card full formatted fine. I can copy files to and from it.

How can I tell if this card is at end of life or not?

I stuck a random 4gig card I had lying around and the dashcam started up fine with it... SO I got that to hold me over.

As an aside, assuming this thing is hosed, what would you recommend for cards? This unit (DOD LS330w) claims to have a 32GB limit, so I can't use the card that was recommended in the other SD/dashcam thread since NCIX only has the 64gb model.

That's the one I was referring to in my post, and it doesn't answer my questions...

So does anyone know of any way to actually see if a card is on it's last legs or not?

Further, does NCIX have any cards my camera can use? NCIX either doesn't carry, or have in the right capacity anything listed in the other thread.

I think the big issue is that very few manufacturers support S.M.A.R.T on SD Cards (it is some alternative mode command or something) so there really isnt a way to tell. Outside of enterprise grade ones for embedded use.

That's what I've gathered, but I was hoping for something.

I still have not found any dashcam worthy 32g cards though, which means I'm either ordering elsewhere, or going cheap.

Just went through my history, and the card that died was bought back in apr 2014, when we bought the car and the car cam itself. That covered 32k km of recording.

There used to be a 32gb version of this product. Been very solid for me.

For the record, I stumbled across this program which does at a very basic level what I was looking for
https://www.heise.de/download/product/h2testw-50539
It just writes files to fill up to the expected capacity of the drive, and then reads them back to verify that they were written

Rufus does the same thing.
Also try formatting the SD card using the SD Association SD Formatter v4.0. Some devices do not properly format SD cards (many don't) and sometimes even Windows (or whatever OS you're using).
